This year’s Irish Commercial Mediation Association’s annual conference took place on the 6th March.

Their findings were that Mediation results in cost savings and time saving. Cases are usually settled within a five week time period and the knock on effect of such an expedient resolution is the cost saving.

The findings of a survey carried out by the Association were that all parties ranked mediation as their preferred manner of dispute resolution.

It was stated by those surveyed that the key factors in making it such a favourable
Process were not only its cost and time saving but also the fact that it preserved
the business relationships between the parties which in these times is important to say the least. It also resulted in a solution that better suited both parties involved as opposed to a court decision which might have only suited one party.

Statistics from the Commercial Court show that nearly 65% of cases referred to mediation last year were successfully settled.

We can safely say that Mediaition is here to stay.
